What’s different
in Brassall.
Brassall stormwater was sized for the house as first built. Then came the extension, the pergola, the shed and the paving. When water pools after rain, the usual findings are leaf-choked grates, a pipe crushed under a driveway or a downpipe disconnected during other work.
Parts of Brassall sit on creek and river floodplains and were affected in 2011 and 2022. Stormwater here can back up just because the receiving creek is high. Note whether pooling happens in ordinary rain or only when the local waterways are up. That timing tells us which problem you have.
Brassall estates were designed with kerb-and-channel discharge, inter-allotment drainage and retaining-wall drains. Problems start when a landscaper, fence or shed changes the flow, a surface grate sits too high, or an inter-allotment pipe crossing your block blocks up. First find out where your stormwater is meant to discharge.
Drains of every age from clay to new PVC. The southern edge has riverside stormwater and flood issues. Around 47% of Brassall households rent. If you rent, report the fault to your property manager first. They authorise the work, and the plumber deals with them from there.
Ipswich City Council publishes historical flood mapping showing the estimated extent of the 1974, 2011 and 2022 floods. If you are on low ground in Brassall, check it, and mention any flood history in your enquiry. View Council flood mapping ↗
What the data says about Brassall
- Where it drains
- The Bremer River catchment was rated “Poor” for environmental condition in the 2025 Report Card. The Bremer River is where Brassall’s stormwater ends up.
- Flood
- Low-lying parts of Brassall went under in 2011 and 2022. Floodwater is untreated, and the silt it leaves in drains, gullies and tanks hangs around.
- The houses
- 80% of the 4,820 dwellings in Brassall are separate houses (2021 Census), each with its own drains to the boundary.
How the plumber finds the cause
The plumber follows the water from the collection points to the discharge point. A blockage, a broken connection, poor fall and too little capacity all leave the same puddle. First, find where your stormwater is meant to discharge. On many Ipswich blocks that isn’t obvious. More on stormwater drainage ↗
What to send us
Photos taken safely during rain are the most useful thing you can send. The water shows what a dry inspection can’t. Note whether the problem is new, where it is, and whether landscaping, paving or building work came first. Don’t enter floodwater or open a pit.
What moves the price
Access, pipe length, the blockage, any damage and whether the drainage needs redesigning set the scope. If a surface problem and an underground one are linked, have them assessed together, or you will pay twice.

Indicative ranges, not quotes. Compiled in October 2026 from published Australian cost guides and plumber price lists, with Queensland and Brisbane figures used where they exist. The licensed plumber prices your job after seeing it, and their price can fall outside these ranges. GST is included where the published figure included it.
