Brassall: what
actually goes wrong.
Brassall is one of the larger suburbs of Ipswich, spread across the hills north of the Bremer River between the Warrego Highway and the river itself. It has 1970s and 1980s brick homes, older timber houses near the river and new estates on its northern fringe, and the low ground along the Bremer flooded in 2011 and 2022.
Brassall was built while drainage and plumbing materials were changing over, which means one house can have clay in the front yard and PVC out the back. Blockages here usually trace to one ageing section or a junction between the two, not the whole system. Original hot water systems, taps and drains across the suburb are now reaching the end of their service life at roughly the same time.

The 2021 Census counted an average of 2.5 people per household in Brassall, in homes averaging 3.2 bedrooms. That is the number that should size a replacement hot water system — not the tank that happens to be there now.
