Redbank Plains: what
actually goes wrong.
Redbank Plains is where Ipswich Blocked Drains is based, and it is one of the largest suburbs in the city. The older streets around Redbank Plains Road and Kruger Parade were built out through the 1970s and 1980s, while estates such as Edens Crossing have added thousands of newer homes on the southern and eastern edges.
Redbank Plains was built while drainage and plumbing materials were changing over, which means one house can have clay in the front yard and PVC out the back. Blockages here usually trace to one ageing section or a junction between the two, not the whole system. Original hot water systems, taps and drains across the suburb are now reaching the end of their service life at roughly the same time.
The homes, and what that means for the pipes
A genuine mix: brick and chamferboard homes from the 1970s and 1980s on larger blocks, and slab-on-ground homes from the last fifteen years on compact lots.
85% of occupied homes in Redbank Plains are separate houses, and 15% are townhouses or apartments — where a blocked drain can involve shared pipework, and the body corporate needs to be in the conversation before anyone books work. The 2021 Census counted an average of 3.1 people per household in Redbank Plains, in homes averaging 3.4 bedrooms. That is the number that should size a replacement hot water system — not the tank that happens to be there now.
Drainage and stormwater
Older streets can have clay drains reaching the end of their life, while the newer estates rely on inter-allotment stormwater easements. Six Mile Creek and Woogaroo Creek collect much of the suburb’s runoff.
