Coalfalls: what
actually goes wrong.
Coalfalls is a small suburb on the southern bank of the Bremer River, named for the coal once mined nearby. It has some of the oldest homes in Ipswich and was heavily affected by the 2011 flood, when the river rose through its riverside streets.
Most of Coalfalls was built before PVC drainage and copper or PEX water pipes became standard, so earthenware sewer lines, galvanised water pipes and original cisterns are still in the ground and still working. That age is what drives the enquiries here: blockages that keep coming back at the same joint, corrosion leaks inside walls, and fixtures whose parts stopped being made decades ago.
