How we find the cause.
We start with the symptoms and the accessible plumbing, then narrow it down: isolating sections, checking the meter with everything off, and using locating methods where the pipe is concealed. A meter that keeps ticking with the whole house shut off is real evidence, and it is the cheapest test there is.
Finding a likely source and getting to it for repair are two separate pieces of work. Concealed pipework under a slab or inside a wall may need controlled access, and we would rather agree where that opening goes before we make it. We will also tell you when the dampness is not plumbing at all, which happens more often than you would expect.
What to send us
Record where and when the dampness appears, and whether it relates to rain or to using a particular fixture. Recent water bills, photographs and details of any building work help. Keep away from wet areas near electrical fittings, and if you can read your meter, note it overnight with no water used.
What actually moves the price
Location, access, how far the investigation has to go and the repair itself all affect the total. Ask any quote to separate detection, access and repair into distinct items, because bundling them hides which part you are actually paying for.
