Basin Pocket: what
actually goes wrong.
Basin Pocket sits in a loop of the Bremer River north-east of the city centre, and its name describes it well. The pocket was submerged in the 2011 and 2022 floods, and many of its older timber homes have been raised, repaired or rebuilt since.
Most of Basin Pocket was built before PVC drainage and copper or PEX water pipes became standard, so earthenware sewer lines, galvanised water pipes and original cisterns are still in the ground and still working. That age is what drives the enquiries here: blockages that keep coming back at the same joint, corrosion leaks inside walls, and fixtures whose parts stopped being made decades ago.
