WHAT IT TELLS YOU

Five things that change
from street to street.

Treated water is the same across the Ipswich network. What differs is whether you are connected to it, what your own pipes add between the meter and the tap, the health of the creek your stormwater runs to, how often floods reach the suburb and where the wastewater goes. The checker rolls those five into one score and tells you which filter, if any, would make a difference.

It is not a health rating. If something looks, smells or tastes wrong, call Urban Utilities on 13 23 64. If the problem is inside your property, a licensed plumber can find it.

How we score
QUESTIONS

About the checker.

Is the water quality checker free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and nothing to install. Type a suburb or postcode and the result appears straight away. It covers all 53 suburbs in the City of Ipswich.

Where does the data come from?

Seqwater’s monthly water quality report for the City of Ipswich zone, the Seqwater and Urban Utilities annual reports, Queensland Government stream gauges, the Healthy Land & Water Report Card and Ipswich City Council flood mapping. Each suburb page names the source next to every figure.

Does a low score mean my tap water is unsafe?

No. Every home on the Urban Utilities network gets the same treated Mt Crosby water, which meets the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. The score measures what changes from suburb to suburb: tank or network supply, the age of the plumbing, the local creek, flood exposure and wastewater.

How often is it updated?

The figures are refreshed every quarter from the government sources, and the build picks up the latest monthly Seqwater report when it runs. The date the data was last updated is shown at the bottom of the page.

Can I use the data or put the checker on my website?

Yes. The checker can be embedded with the code on this page, and the full data set is published as JSON under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. Credit Ipswich Blocked Drains with a link to https://blockeddrainsipswich.com.au/water-quality/.

your water?
